In the late 21st century, Humankind confined itself to 100 Human habitats evenly distributed over the Earth's surface. These theee mile diameter mega-buildings could support over 100 million people each in a nearly "closed" environment, thereby freeing the earth of the malignant growth of human exploitation. It was soon realized, however, that the complex and increasingly fragile systems which kept so many people alive could be easily disabled by any random breakdown or accident. Such occurances came to be known as GREMLIN TROUBLE.
